Fovea1 and non-fovea1 after-images affect saccadic behaviour in different ways.Fovea1 after-images inhibit saccades and facilitate smooth eye movements whether or notinstructions to track the after-image are given. Parafoveal after-images are effective stimulifor eliciting consistent eye movement patterns, but these patterns change when instructions aregiven. Peripheral after-images have little effect on eye movements. Eye movement patternswith extrafoveal after-images suggest that corrective saccades (under retinal control) havedifferent temporal properties from searching saccades (under central control). Evaluation of the Vascular Density, the Area of Foveal Avascular Zone, and Corrected Vision in Patients with Diabetic Macular Edema after Anti-VEGF Therapy

Background and Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the changes in macular superficial and deep capillary plexus (SCP and DCP) density, Foveal Avascular Zone (FAZ) area, and visual acuity in patients with diabetic macular edema after anti-VEGF therapy. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical study utilized before and after treatment design. In total, 30 eyes of 30 patients with d...

Stable individual differences across images in human saccadic eye movements.

Individual differences in eye movements during picture viewing were examined across image format, content, and foveal quality in 3 experiments. Experiment 1 demonstrated that an individual's fixation durations were strongly related across 3 types of scene formats and that saccade amplitudes followed the same pattern. In Experiment 2, a similar relationship was observed for fixation durations ac...

Influence of foveal distractors on saccadic eye movements: A dead zone for the global effect

Three experiments investigated the global effect with foveal distractors displayed in the same hemifield as more eccentric saccade targets. Distractors were x-letter strings of variable length and targets corresponded to the central letter of letter strings (e.g., 'xxxkxxx'). Results showed that only foveal distractors longer than four letters (about 1 degree) deviated the eyes in a center-of-g...

Trans-saccadic integration of peripheral and foveal feature information is close to optimal.

Due to the inhomogenous visual representation across the visual field, humans use peripheral vision to select objects of interest and foveate them by saccadic eye movements for further scrutiny. Thus, there is usually peripheral information available before and foveal information after a saccade. In this study we investigated the integration of information across saccades. We measured reliabili...

How transsaccadic predictions shape the perception of shape.

INTRODUCTION Human vision is characterized by consistent shifts between fixations and saccadic eye movements. With each saccade, internal object representations change their retinal position and spatial resolution which raises the question as to how extra-foveal perception is affected by upcoming saccadic eye movements. Recently, we suggested that saccades are accompanied by a prediction of the...
